Over the weekend I flew to New York to see this band. This band being Antarctigo Vespucci, a punk supergroup of sorts founded by Chris Farren and Jeff Rosenstock and including almost too many guest spots to include (Laura Stevenson, Mike Campbell, Casey Lee, Benny Horowitz, John DeDomencini, Tim Daniels). It took place at an unmarked venue up two flights of stairs in an industrial neighborhood in Brooklyn, where some seriously devoted fans gathered for this first show that I was definitely not cool enough to be at. There was phenomenal support from YJY, Mikey Erg, and Chris Gethard that already made the night seem a little too good to be true.
I’ve been listening to the Antarctigo Vespucci album almost nonstop since I got my hands on it and I couldn’t resist making the insane trip to see it live. I’m glad to report that I have zero regrets and this night was a dream come true. The band played through their entire record, with a couple Fake Problems and Bomb the Music Industry! tunes thrown in to fill out the set. The crowd was amazing, so many people getting super into it and singing along with all the words for the first show from this project.
Make sure to pick up Antarctigo Vespucci’s Soulmate Stuffif you haven’t already to hear some of the best music of 2014.
